The Nu-To-Yu Thrift Store is more than just a shop, it’s a community hub that brings people together, keeps usable goods out of the landfill, and raises funds for local programs that support island life. None of this would be possible without the generosity of our community. There are many ways you can help:
Donate Goods
Your gently used items fuel the store and help raise money for community programs. We welcome:

Clean, gently used clothing for all ages

Household items, décor, and small appliances

Books, games, and puzzles (with all their pieces)

Linens and fabrics in good condition
Please avoid donating: broken or chipped items, large furniture, electronics, or anything stained or unclean.

Tuesdays & Thursdays: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Saturdays: 11:00 am – 2:00 pm
(Please only drop off during these hours so our volunteers can properly receive and sort your donations.)

Thanks to Mike Gray and Tru Valu’s Spirit Board, you can donate your 1% to the construction of the new Nu-to-Yu building. When you’re checking out, consider donating your 1% to #33.

Become a Member
Nu-To-Yu is operated by the Pender Island Community Service Society (PICSS), and becoming a member at a one-time fee of $5 is the first step. Becoming an active member requires that you donate 6 (or more) hours of your time each month for 6 months. This is one of the best ways to show your support. Active membership gives you:
- A voice in the direction of Nu-To-Yu and other PICSS programs
- Voting rights at the Annual General Meeting
- The opportunity to help shape how community funds are distributed
- A deeper connection to the heart of Pender Island’s volunteer spirit
Membership is open to all island residents. By joining, you’re not just supporting the thrift store, you’re helping strengthen the entire community.
Your Contribution Matters
Every bag of clothing, every hour volunteered, and every dollar donated adds up to real change. Together, we’ve supported local health care, education, arts, recreation, and countless other initiatives that keep our island strong.
To start volunteering with us, visit us on one of our sorting days which run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to noon. We can sign you up and give you a task that suits your interests and abilities.
