October Update

Like most thrift stores, we prefer seasonal donations due to our limited storage. We are now accepting Halloween items. Winter clothing, be it outwear or boots is also in demand. Donations of Christmas clothing is gratefully accepted after Halloween. For those summer items, shorts, capris, sandals please hold your donations until after Christmas. Thank you for all you donate.

Theft has been an increasing concern for many stores, the Nu-To-Yu is no different. Most recently this has resulted in our change rooms being removed due to the repeated and ever increasing removal of price tags while in the room. Recently, two male individuals entered the downstairs area with the purpose to steal work footwear. They then bypassed (I am being kind), paying for their footwear as they dashed out to their vehicle. Yes, you were noticed. Please don’t. In the future, the new store will price tag all items and those items with no tags when presented at the register will not be sold. Please remember that volunteer sellers on Fridays and Saturdays are not permitted to decrease a price on an item nor are they permitted to put a price on an item missing a price tag.

Please be respectful and donate only gently used items. Do not, as a few have done, step out of your dirty clothes, put them in a bag, and donate to the Nu-To-Yu. Imaginative perhaps, but certainly not pleasant experience for the volunteers. Please check for stains, tears, missing buttons before you bag items up for donations. We cannot sell dirty clothes, broken toys, magazines. It costs the Nu-To-Yu money to dispose of these items, money that would be better spent on post secondary school grants etc.

Books and furniture donations will no longer be accepted on Saturdays. As a general rule hard covered books are not accepted and it appears Saturday is the day to slip them through. Vintage hardcover donations are “screened” by one of our volunteers before being accepted. Please phone the store for more information. Finally, when donating travel guides please ensure they are reasonably up to date,….up to 2-3 years old? Older than that do not sell. For your information, books are now taken free of charge at the Hartman dump where they are shredded into compost for gardening.
